Budget airline cheap flight ticket price?

just a question, how do budget airline like air asia can sell for very cheap price? example i just bought a flight sin-bandung-sin for only 40 dollars. So how can they earn from that?

1. They make up the difference on the 'extras'. Easyjet, for example, managed to get me on a flight to Geneva for only £114 - which I thought was very cheap. Until I turned up at the airport and they said they were surcharging me £18 to take my suitcase as well (as if anyone goes on holiday without a suitcase) which meant an additional £36 on top of the original fare. The robbing charlatans.

3. they can afford cheaper flights if they fill the plane, the less tickets sold, the less passengers the more money lost. you need to check out the terms and conditions on your ticket. i would say its safe to assume that you have no luggage or travel insurance. be careful with cheap flights, if your flight is delayed or cancelled, they may refuse to help with accommodation, they have very strict rules on their times and luggage allowance. be really careful you don't exceed your weight limit in luggage, the excess is huge.
4. just to add....$40 is just the fare, but you have to add taxes and airport fees...so it cheap for the airline viewpoint but not for the traveler. Airlines will make money buy selling anything on the plane, charging you even pillow and blanket (no joke), etc, that is beside the luggage's charges
5. Airlines don't make money on the cheaper seats, they make there 'seat' profit on seats sold at the last minute (generally to business passengers). Low cost airlines make most of their profits from 'ancillary' revenue such as in-flight meals, car hire, extra leg room charges etc
